This time, I wrote an article about
how I caught fish using DUO’s BR FISH
when fishing in a river in February.
By the way,
the fish I was targeting were flathead and flounder.
I would like to write an article not only about the fact that I was able to catch fish,
but also about the reason why this worm is so effective for winter fishing.
On February 16, 2025,
it was the first day in a long time that the weather was mild and sunny.
It was a warm day after the cold wave had passed,
but only on such a day,
the conditions are not good for anglers: clear skies, no wind,
and clean water.
Under such conditions,
it is easy for the fish to see that the lure is fake,
so I went fishing knowing that I would not be able to catch any fish.
But BR FISH dispels such fears.
BR FISH is most highly successful in the winter season
and I have been using it,
but it seems that some anglers have started using it in
fishing competitions in foreign countries.
This time, we will be fishing in a river in Wakayama Prefecture.
Of course, I will be using BR FISH and a special BR HEAD 7g.
The hook setting is like this.
The depth of the water is less than 1m from the shore to about 30m.
From there, the water is suddenly deeper.
In shallow water, a 7g jig head is just right.
Since it was warm on this day,
the water in shallow areas is heated by the sun and
the water temperature is high.
Since the water temperature is high and it looks cozy,
I think, “Maybe there are fish in shallow areas,”
and try to target mainly shallow areas.
But reality is harsh and there is no response at all.
The water is clean, so it is easy to be found by birds above,
and they may be wary of you.
In fact, there were quite a few birds
before I arrived at my fishing spot.
So, next, I tried to go for the break line,
hich is between the shallow and deep areas.
I figured that some fish would really like to go to the shallows to feed,
but would be wary of the birds and hide on the break line.
The lures we will use are the same,
BR FISH and 7g BR HEAD.
In order to reach the break line,
I cast the lure farther toward the front
and use a “winding action” to entice the fish to the break line.
In this way, the lure swims in a zigzagging,
meandering motion near the bottom,
allowing the angler to pass the same point slowly.
If you just reel the lure in,
it will pass through the breakline in an instant,
but with the “winding action,” the lure meanders from side to side,
allowing more time for the lure to pass through the breakline.
Of course, if you search the same spot for a long time,
it is easy to be caught out that the lure is fake,
but with the “winding action,”
the lure moves quickly from side to side,
so it is harder for fish to detect that the lure is fake.
And BR FISH is characterized by its soft material and natural appeal.
Even fish that look like they are having a hard time
to survive the winter will be tempted to eat this lure.
How reliable…!
So, I started fishing at low tide, and as I was throwing BR FISH…
After only three casts, I felt a strong thumping impact on my rod.
This is a big one!
I win over the rampaging fish and see the black body of the fish.
It’s not a flathead and a flounder, but we did it!
The fish we caught was a 43 cm black sea bream (Chinu)!
It is a cool black fish!
This winter was a tough season for me
because it was difficult to catch fish,
I am not a good fisherman,
and I am not good at reading where the fish are.
I had been going to distant fishing grounds and losing many times,
but I was able to taste the strong pull of a fish for the first time in a long time.
The fish were fat,
and I am sure that fish raised in clean winter water tasted delicious without any odor.
Thanks to BR FISH,
I can catch fish even in the cold winter.
